Celebrating My Birthday In Malta
As the state of the world changes daily, I was unsure if I would be able to celebrate my birthday as I usually do. On a trip. Since Covid, I have relentlessly found myself checking countries that are open for travel without any restrictions and Malta just so happened to be one of them. I had actually never heard of Malta until a couple of my Soldier’s visited and told me it was worth seeing…so of course I added it to the top of my travel list after doing a little research and started making plans for my Birthday.

I hadn’t see my best travel girlfriend since the beginning of February. She currently lives in Germany and I was so excited she was able to join me. We always have the best time together and this trip was no different. After arriving and waiting on my bag for what feels like an hour we jumped in a taxi and headed to our hotel in St. Julians.

Our first night we really didn’t make any plans so we had dinner a few drinks and just do what we do best…laugh and have a good time. The next morning we had breakfast and enjoyed a day of sightseeing. I’m a sucker for doing touristy things and because I am a true fan of Game of Thrones, I made certain to visit the entrance of Kings Landing. This location truly felt like we had transcended back in time.

Sunday was the day I planned for us to visit the Blue Lagoon. It was a day I was unsure was going to happen because the weather had been calling for rain. But the Sun God heard my prayers and we were spared. I was so thankful because by far this was the highlight of my trip. All summer I have been on boat trips and basking in the sun but my girlfriend has not been as fortunate. Her only request was to return to Germany with a tan and that she did.

It’s crazy how things work out, because the day I was heading to the airport I felt as I needed more time. As luck would have it my flight was canceled and not scheduled to leave for two more days. After panicking for a tad bit I called my girlfriend as her flight was a few hours later and being the great friend she is she changed her flight to accommodate me. Sometimes things happen for a reason and we were really happy to plan another boat trip the very next day.

So where exactly is Malta? It’s no surprise that most have never heard of the country, however the island-state is located in the Mediterranean Sea south of Sicily and consists of three islands. The Capital City is Valletta.
Language: Maltese and English
Religion: Primarily Catholic
Currency: Euro
Hotel: we stayed at the Hugo’s Boutique Hotel. It was an Adults only but centrally located as well as affordable.
Getting Around: Taxi or City Bus. It was fairly reasonable taking a taxi to most places.

If you’re thinking about planning a trip to Malta I would advise going when the weather is warm so you can take advantage of the boat trips. Even in the latter part of September it was still warm and enjoyable.
