5 Things I wish I knew Before Reaching My 40s
It’s time for us to have a heart to heart. As a woman in my mid-40s there are just some things that I wish I had known prior to entering this stage of my life. So go ahead and grab your beverage of choice and let’s chat.
1. Your 20/20 vision is going to be a thing of the past. All my life I have had great vision and then what seemed like overnight everything went blurry. Now I’m that woman constantly digging in her purse looking for her glasses.
2. You’re going to need to leave that hair color on a little longer. Now I have had gray hair since I was 12. It’s hereditary, but this wasn’t anything a black rinse couldn’t fix. Now here we are all these years later and that hair color is laughing at me. It doesn’t matter how long I leave it on…it’s back a week later. Before you ask. No I’m not ready to just let it be.
3. That extra holiday weight isn’t going to be as easy to get off. As an avid gym goer, I never struggled with my weight especially not in my mid-section. I’m telling you I went from abs of steel to questioning whose body I was in. It wasn’t until I incorporated a probiotic in my diet that I was able to get it under control.
4. SPF is your friend. I really wish I had known about the importance of sunscreen years ago. I could have saved myself from years of dealing with hyperpigmentation. My daughter is in her twenties and I tell her if you don’t use anything else you must use a sunscreen.
5. Please don’t ask me to stay out pass ten. I promise I won’t be any fun. Who wants to be the 40 plus woman yawning in the club? I require at a minimum eight hours of sleep to be fully functional. Oh and if I’m going out, I will definitely need a nap.
I say all this with a little humor and a lot of honesty. Tell me. What are some of the things you wish you had known at any age?
